Mr Atkin is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon, with a specialist interest in laparoscopic surgery. He graduated from Manchester University. He then moved on to hospitals in Northampton and London, before undertaking research into bowel cancer at the Gray Cancer Institute, Mount Vernon Hospital.
His higher surgical training in General and Colorectal Surgery was on the North West Thames Surgical Rotation, which included training at St Mark’s Hospital, the internationally-renowned centre for gastrointestinal disease. During this rotation, he was also trained in Paediatric General Surgery at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
He then completed a fellowship in laparoscopic colorectal surgery at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital, Welwyn Garden City, before taking up his consultant post at Barnet and Chase Farm NHS Trust.
Mr Atkin’s special interests are in minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery for benign bowel disease as well as bowel cancer. He is trained in a wide range of gastrointestinal disorders, as well as hernia repair and paediatric surgical procedures.
Mr Atkin adopts a compassionate and personal approach, and prides himself on ensuring that his patients feel comfortable and well-informed throughout their treatment.
